Borivali National Park- A must visit for families in Mumbai

by Chriselle Bayross

Everyone who calls themselves Mumbaikar, has visited Borivali National park atleast once. In a city where space, especially green space- is a rare luxury, this park is a refreshing oasis amongst the concrete jungle.

A nostalgic visit with Ziva to Borivali National Park

Naturally, we had to introduce Ziva to it. With her grandmother’s house nearby and my growing interest in getting her outdoors, it was the perfect outing, with plenty of family activities. One Sunday, we set off, pleasantly surprised to find it uncrowded. While people were strolling, picnicking, and queuing for the tiger safari, it never felt overwhelming—just peaceful.

Seeing safari-goers waiting for their turn brought back nostalgic memories of my aunt Cerena taking me to Borivali National park as a child. I vividly remember how eagerly she wanted to see the tigers herself and how she stood up and crowded around the one seat that had a clear view.

For this trip, we brought along a stroller—an absolute game-changer. It made moving around effortless, and whenever Ziva got tired, she could simply hop in. My goal is to take her everywhere, especially now that she’s at that in-between age where most activities start at three years old. Traveling with her is getting easier, and I can’t wait to relive these experiences with her!

A leisurely stroll through nature

Human life at Borivali National Park

Since we started a little late, we took a leisurely stroll, soaking in the beauty around us. Towering trees provided shade, and the cheerful calls of birds were music to our ears. We even spotted an eagle at eye level! We played on the swings, admired the boats (though we skipped the ride this time), sipped on refreshing lemon juice, snapped some pictures, and rested at a gazebo while Ziva ran around happily.

It was a wonderful day, and we are already planning our next visit!

Is it baby friendly?

  1. Stroller friendly pathways
  2. Plenty of family activities—we even saw a painter at work and senior citizens enjoying a fashion show!
  3. Safe environment with minimal traffic, though kids should always be accompanied
