Borivali is a lovely suburb- being the last stop on the western train line has kept it from feeling overly commercial (for now). One factor I appreciate is there are still many parks and open spaces. When my sister in law said we must visit a place called Box Zone, giving no other details, I thought, “Just another park? “ but did it surprise us- Box Zone Borivali was a wonderland of play!
Whether it’s still undiscovered or we just got lucky, the place wasn’t crowded when we visited. And here’s the kicker — it’s outdoors! It was a refreshing change to visit an outdoor play zone, when most are crammed indoor spaces filled with flashing lights and loud music.
Ditch the screen- Play at Box Zone Borivali
The playzone is easily accessible with loads of kids activities. Sprawled over 4 acres and it had everything: bumper cars mini bus rides, battery operated bikes and cars, balloon house installations, bouncy castles, pedal boating to name a few. There is also a second area with a trampolines, basketball hoops, bowling etc. Both kids and adults can be spend hours here. It’s heartening to see such sprawling play zones in a city constantly starved for open spaces and without the screen time . I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.

Remember Free play?
That said it also made me reflect on how play has evolved. We definitely did not have facilities like this, while growing up, but had simpler joys. Games like seven tiles, land and water, hide and seek etc. kept us engaged for hours. We even invented our own: murder mysteries with assigned roles, imaginary adventures with nothing but our minds. That kind of free play sparked creativity, problem-solving, and real bonding — no Instagram parenting posts needed to tell us that.
So, while I marvel at these modern play zones, I don’t feel we missed out one bit. What do you think? Would love to hear in the comments!
